रेल्वेमंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव संसदेत म्हणाले की, देशातील प्रत्येक रेल्वे प्रवाशाला प्रवासाच्या तिकिटावर ४६ टक्के सबसिडी दिली जाते. लोकसभेत प्रश्नोत्तराच्या तासादरम्यान पूरक प्रश्नांना अश्विनी वैष्णव यांनी उत्तर दिले. रेल्वे मंत्रालय दरवर्षी प्रवाशांसाठी सबसिडीवर ५६,९९३ कोटी रुपये खर्च करते.
ज्येष्ठ नागरिक आणि मान्यताप्राप्त पत्रकारांना पूर्वी सबसिडी दिली जात होती. मात्र, गेल्या काही वर्षांपासून ती बंद करण्यात आली आहे. मात्र, ही सबसिडी पुन्हा लागू केली जाणार, अशी शक्यता वर्तविली जात होती. अशावेळी अश्विनी वैष्णव म्हणाले, भारत सरकारने प्रवाशांना दिलेली एकूण सबसिडी ५६,९९३ कोटी रुपये आहे. प्रत्येक १०० रुपयांच्या प्रवासी सेवेची किंमत ५४ रुपये आकारली जाते. सर्व श्रेणीतील प्रवाशांना ४६ टक्के सबसिडी दिली जाते.

The Indian Railways provides an annual subsidy of Rs 56,993 crore across all passenger categories, offering a 46 per cent reduction on each ticket, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement on Wednesday.
During his address in the Lok Sabha regarding restoration of passenger discounts for various categories, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that passengers pay only Rs 54 for a ticket priced at Rs 100.
In the Question Hour session, Vaishnaw emphasised that the annual railway subsidy extends to "all classes of passengers”. He said that Indian Railways gives Rs 56,993 crore subsidy on ticket prices every year.
